Funeral Arrangements

Because a Will is often not read until several weeks after the Willmaker passes away, you should advise your Executor or family members of your desired arrangements now, by jotting them onto a piece of paper.

Funeral arrangements can be very expensive, and usually average around $6,000 or more, in addition to the tombstone, if applicable. Consider arranging a funeral plan, where you pay for your funeral in small instalments, thereby taking the pressure off your relatives to quickly come up with these funds after your death.

You have the option of specifying in your Will what type of funeral service you would like, and how you want your body to be disposed of (for instance, burial/cremation). You can also express wishes regarding donation of your organs for medical or scientific purposes.

You do not have to mention these things in your Will if you do not want to, and in that case your Executor will decide on these arrangements.
